So, just as a recap- we have new drainage in all the right places, good solid footings and foundation walls and a perfectly smooth footplate. If you've missed any of this, check out the 'Our Home' page to catch up.
And now (I feel like there should be drum roll here for some reason!?) we...have....WALLS!
Well the start of them!
Carl, Ash and Bob (the labourer) were back on Tuesday 7th May to start bricklaying those lovely facing bricks and beautiful 3.5N Blocks.
Yes, I realise that I am probably far to excited over bricks and blocks, but if you had been waiting as long as I have, you would be too!
All the materials I have ordered, so far have arrived on schedule. I sourced our own materials, right down to the wall ties, but have turned to our builder for help with ordering the roof. It did take some serious time and effort, but I have managed to sweet talk my way into trade accounts and extra discounts, so it's been worth it. Even our builder is impressed with the prices I've had and is going to start using at least one of the suppliers. (Yep! Feeling little smug about that, I am!).
Tuesday, Carl and Ash went like the clappers, while bob kept them fully stocked with bricks, blocks and mortar. I was so impressed at not only how quickly it progressed, but the level of care they took.
I was most pleased with how great the blue plinth bricks looked with the bricks we'd chosen and how well they all looked, with the original house brickwork. The blue plinth bricks were my choice, just as the bifold doors on the design are Adams, so really happy it turned out beautifully. I think it finishes the back off nicely.
On Wednesday and Thursday the weather was absolutely terrible, and as smudged brickwork isn't the prettiest the builders were rained off.
Friday, Carl, Ash and Bob were back though, along with Mark (Carls dad) and Aidan to brick lay too. They worked so fast, that they had nearly all the ground floor done by the end of the day.
I am fully stocked with 3 cakes, bread, bacon, sausages, eggs and of course tea bags, to keep them all going next week. Though they would never expect this level of catering usually, I am really happy to do it, as watching it all coming together so well, is absolutely brilliant!
